According to Babycenter.com, guavas are a safe and healthy choice during pregnancy. However, it is essential that pregnant women wash their guavas prior to eating them. Unwashed produce may contain harmful bacteria and parasites that can cause food-borne diseases such as toxoplasmosis and listeriosis according to the FDA and the American Pregnancy Association. Even produce with skin, rind or peel should be washed because bacteria or parasites accumulated on the outside of the produce can be inadvertantely ingested after peeling or cutting it.
